Founder and Principal Solicitor
Nilmini Roelens LLM, DEJF

Roelens Solicitors  is managed by Nilmini Roelens. Nilmini was admitted as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England & Wales in 1991. She graduated from Leicester University in 1987 with her first degree in LLB Law with French. Being a fluent French speaker she obtained a Diplome d'Etudes Juridiques Francaises from Strasbourg University (France). She first developed her passion for the practice of Immigration Law as a Trainee Solicitor in London in 1990 and thus has three decades of experience in the field.

She became an individual member of the Immigration Law Practitioners Association in 1991. She focused on Immigration Law during her Masters Degree in European Law at Kings College, London. Since 1997 she managed her own successful specialist Immigration Law firm Roelens Solicitors employing a sizeable team of immigration lawyers during which time she secured  Law Society Accreditation as a Supervisor in Immigration Law. She was also a member of the highly regarded Law Society's Immigration Law Panel and secured UK Border Agency approval for the firm's services in Sponsorship Licensing whilst the schemes were in operation and has conducted a number of seminars on the Points Based System notably on Tiers 2 and 4. 

She has written many articles on the Points Based System, including the new Innovator category, Tier 2 and other Immigration Law issues in specialist fora. She has a particular interest in Global Talent, Start-ups and Innovators, Tiers 1 Investor, Tiers 2 and 4 of the PBS. She has successfully challenged UKVI suspension and revocation action of sponsor licences of Businesses as well as Educational Institutions through representations and complex Judicial Review.  

In addition to her deep interest in Business Immigration she is strongly committed to Human Rights and has been involved in a number of significant legal challenges in protection cases. 

Nilmini's commitment to refugee and human rights issues, particularly as they affect religious minorities and issues relating to gender based persecution has led to her becoming  the key author of two reports on country conditions, following fact-finding missions to Pakistan in 2014/5 and to Thailand and Malaysia in 2019.

She was a contributor to the All-Party Parliamentary Group for International Freedom of Religion or Belief. She has also contributed to Home Office policy on the position of religious minorities in Pakistan and ethnic minorities in Somalia. She represented the appellants in the country guidance cases of  MN and others (Ahmadis – country conditions – risk) Pakistan CG [2012] UKUT 00389 (IAC) and of MST and Others (national service – risk categories) Eritrea CG [2016] UKUT 00443 (IAC) 

Nilmini also acts as a Consultant Solicitor to other specialist Immigration law firms.

Nilmini speaks fluent French and Sinhala. She also claims to have a beginners'  intermediate knowledge of Mandarin Chinese as well as a smattering of Spanish and German.       

Alisha Dsouza - Solicitor - Business and Personal Immigration

Alisha was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales in 2019. She also qualified as an advocate of the Supreme Court of India in early 2013 and has gained valuable experience in UK Immigration Law in all aspects of UK Immigration Law and practice since joining Roelens Solicitors in October 2013.

She subsequently gained experience in Business Immigration handling accounts of SMEs and High Networth individuals with Legal 500 firms in London. She has the full range of experience in Immigration law from Business Immigration, notably in Tier 2, to Appendix FM and Protection routes. She has handled complex appeals and secured the release of clients from the notorious Detained Fast Track procedure whilst the scheme was in operation. She enjoys discretionary applications where she has managed to secure leave for her clients on the basis of her strong representations.

Alisha gained her law degree from Mumbai University in 2011 and has worked as a Corporate Lawyer gaining valuable experience in commercial and intellectual property law, litigation and Alternate Dispute Resolution. She is highly committed to securing the best results for our clients. 


She speaks fluent Hindi, Marathi, Konkani, Urdu and basic Gujarati.

Dr. Emre Korkmaz - Immigration Consultant - Business Immigration

Dr Emre Korkmaz has a special interest in Tier 1 applications and the EEC Association (Ankara) Agreement applications.  


He is also a Departmental Lecturer in Migration and Development and part of the core academic staff of MSc in Migration Studies at the University of Oxford’s Department of International Development. He is a research fellow at St Edmund Hall and a Research Associate at the Centre for Technology and Global Affairs of the Department of Politics and International Relations.

Between October 2016 and September 2018, he was a British Academy, Newton International Fellow/ post-doctoral researcher at ODID. He is recognized by the British Academy as an emerging leader (exceptional promise), Research and Innovation. 

He is a political scientist and international relations expert by training. He was awarded his PhD from Istanbul University’s Department of International Relations in June 2016. His academic work focuses on different aspects of migration and refugee studies and he has authored numerous articles on the position of Syrian refugees as well as the emigration of Turkish nationals to the West. Emre is a native speaker of Turkish.

Yukino Posthuma de Boer - Immigration Paralegal - Business Immigration

Yukino Posthuma de Boer undertakes a broad spectrum of immigration work with a particular interest in Tiers 2 and 5 as well as other Business Immigration categories. Yukino graduated from Hiroshima University with an LLB before completing her GDL at Oxford Brookes in 2019. She is currently undertaking her Legal Practice Course part-time focusing on immigration, family and employment law at the University of Law. She was inspired to do Immigration Law because of her first-hand experience with the UK’s complex immigration system from her own visa applications.

Yukino is a native speaker of Japanese. 

Lea Rival - Immigration Paralegal - European desk - Business Immigration

Lea Rival undertakes our European work. She deals with our EU settlement and Pre-settlement applications as well as applications for Nationality. She also has a keen interest in Human Rights and Asylum notably in relation to gender based persecution. Lea has recently completed her LLB Law degree at Durham University and is due to commence her Legal Practice Course and LLM course in 2021 at the University of Law in Reading. She gained her European Baccalaureate with excellent academic achievements from the European School at Culham where she studied in the French medium. Lea provides paralegal support to Nilmini Roelens.


Lea is a native speaker of French and has an excellent command of Spanish.

Zoe Luo - Tier 4: China desk - International Marketing - Business Immigration

Zoe is currently following her Master of Laws degree in International Trade and Commercial Law at Durham University. Zoe gained her first degree in Law from Capital University in Business and Economics in Beijing in 2019. She was commended for her skills in mooting (advocacy) and is mastering the art of persuasion whilst applying her legal skills to real life issues. Zoe provides paralegal support for our Tier 4 Educational Establishments and Students work and is responsible for our China desk as well as general international promotional events.

Zoe is a native speaker of Mandarin.

Tauyyaba Mohammed - Immigration Paralegal - Asylum and Human Rights - Protection Team

Tauyyaba gained her LLB law degree from Oxford Brookes University in 2009. She provides paralegal support and undertakes Asylum and Human Rights work with a special interest in persecution based on religious beliefs and political opinion issues as well as Personal Immigration, EU Settlement and Pre-settlement applications. 

Tauyyaba speaks fluent Urdu and Punjabi.

Limyaa Ali - Immigration Paralegal - Asylum and Human Rights - Protection Team

Limyaa undertakes Asylum, Human Rights and Personal Immigration work. She has a special interest in gender based persecution issues and religious persecution. She practised as a lawyer in Sudan between 1994 and 1999. She gained her BA degree in English Language, Linguistics and Law from Oxford Brookes University in 2009. In 2013 she was awarded a Post-graduate diploma in Principles and Practice of Translation from the City of London University.  She gained her LLM Masters in Law from the Omdurman Univeristy in Sudan in 1999. She undertakes legal translations into and from Arabic.


She speaks and writes fluent Arabic.

Ahmad Aslam - Office Operations

Ahmad exercises a multi-disciplinary role as our Office Operations manager in keeping with his diverse academic achievements. He manages the smooth functioning of our finances, business strategy, staff development, IT and marketing as well as the overall functioning of our office ensuring compliance with SRA and GDPR rules. Ahmad also provides some Paralegal and interpretation support for our London surgeries.


Ahmad completed his LLM in International Banking and Finance from the University of West London in 2020. He also has a Masters in Finance from the University of Gottenburg. Furthermore he has a Masters in Computer Science from the Government College of Lahore which he gained in 2004 and a BA in Commerce from the University of Punjab. He lectured at the University of Lahore COMSATS for some five years.

Ahmad speaks fluent Urdu.
